Feather and Down used in the manufacture of Continental Quilts are sanitised on the premises. They are washed, dried and sterilized in Purax's own plant at Reservoir. The company has found that this allows tighter control over quality than that of and imported product.
What is Feather?
Feathers are the principle covering of birds. They are flat and two dimensional with hollow
tubular Quill shafts
What is Down?
Down is the soft fluffy clusters which grow under the outer layer of breast feathers of
geese and ducks to protect them from the extremely cold temperatures. Down is lighter
and more flexible than feathers and has superior loft and fill power. A Down cluster
contains thousands of soft filaments radiating out from a central quill point (similar to
a dandeloin) to form a spherical plume.
Types of Feather and Down Quilts:
| Walled and Channelled Quilts - Perfect for year round sleeping comfort. Walled and channelled construction keeps feather and down fill evenly distributed but adjusts for seasonal needs. Simply brush fill up or down the channels to regulate warmth. |

4-Way Quilt -This construction is the ultimate design, featuring four way adjustability. These quilts are made to suite the differing temperature needs of bed partners. Filling can be shaken and adjusted four ways to alter insulation of the quilt. |

Cassette Style Quilt - Cassette style is a non adjustable design featuring a series of individually filled squares which maintain even distribution of fill. |
Downs Fluffability
Down should be fluffed daily to get air into the clusters allowing it to reloft and redistribute
the fill. Regular fluffing will provide better insulation and prolong life of the product.
How Down Works
The millions of tiny down filaments overlap with each other to form air pockets. These air
pockets create a natural insulating layer that holds warmth in and keeps cold out.
Caring for your Down Quilt
Down Quilts are either machine washable or dry cleanable. When washing your quilt use a mild
soap and a thorough rinsing is necessary to remove all soap residue from the down clusters.
Down quilts should be tumble dried for several hours at a warm to meduim temperature setting
for best results. Regular airing outside (not in direct sunlight) is also highly recommended.
